ABOUT

The Smart Oakland Project is a "crowdsourced" response to the US Department of Transportation’s Smart City Challenge Grant led by the City of Oakland. This blog, otherwise known as the Smart Oakland “Sandbox,” is dedicated to facilitating this unprecedented effort.

To learn more about the problem, please click here to read Mayor Libby Schaaf's open invitation that launched Smart Oakland on January 12, 2016.

Project Staff

Two staff members will work closely together to ensure this SOP workflow process rises to the challenge and produces a competitive vision of a Smart Oakland that everyone can be proud of.

Michael Ford will serve as project manager and blog moderator. Michael is currently a program manager in the Transportation Services Division of the Public Works Department. Michael can be reached via email at mford@oaklandnet.com or by phone at (510) 238-7670 (although your chances of reaching him are much better via email).

Matt Nichols will serve as the Mayor’s point person and work closely with Michael throughout the project. Matt is Policy Director for Infrastructure & Transportation in the Office of the Mayor. Matt can be reached via email at mdnichols@oaklandnet.com.
