Smart Oakland recognizes that the real “challenge” is for cities across the nation is to think boldly and offer a compelling vision of the future that can serve as a model without compromising their core values and respecting that which makes them unique. Only in this way will the “Smart City” effectively becomes a “Smart Oakland” or a “Smart Sacramento” or a “Smart Dallas”.

In addition to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation "Vision Elements" for the Smart City Challenge Grant the following criteria will guide Smart Oakland editorial decisions:
